And there there are the reboots mid ride. Almost every ride it pops up the finish flag when I am in the middle of nowhere, or when rerouting it just gives up and the blue line ends, I just need to guess and eventually it finds the route again. I was just listening to the google directions (īut I hate using the directions on the wahoo no matter where the map comes from. Far more direct, took me around most crazy mountains and led me to some brilliant roads. Basically the roads sucked and it took a lot longer. I ended up on this very fast and scary road next to the ocean but with a barrier so I could not even see it. I lead me to roads that looked like they were beside the ocean perhaps it wanted me to ride along a path that used to be there but wasn't (looked like there was a walking path that got washed away). Day1 I chose this even thought the route it suggested was something like 25km longer than what google said. RidewithGPS: I had my worst ride with this. Holy crap it was tough just walking my bike up it, so steep I could barely walk without slipping. Kind of fun but I don't want to do it again. Then at the end of one of those paths apparently I could connect to a major road, but I had to climb over a barrier onto the road to do it. It took me though what could only be described as jungle, trees so thick I could not see past them and there was only slight evidence of a trail, had to walk and hold my arms up blocking the vegetation from scraping my face off. ![]() Komoot: I would only recommend if you were just riding aimlessly and didnt need to be somewhere. ![]() Now its possible this might vary depending on where you live but. I didnt try strava but I did try Komoot, rwgps and google maps. I also have a roam and recently did a 7 day tour of a part of Japan using it: I once did a "gravelride" made by Strava through an area I knew was riddled with gravel & dirtroads, it was 75% paved) Benefit of RWGPS and Komoot is that they both use the OSM-Cycle map-overlay, whereas Strava uses their own heatmaps (which doesn't differentiate between offroad & road. Strava GPX files don't have that information embedded.īasically: RWGPS pairs the best of Strava (free migration to a GPS unit) with the best of Komoot (free to make routes, TbT-information in the file), and augments that with a less intrusive interface, which makes it ideal for people who want to make their own route using map information. On top of that: easy to use (Strava & Komoot want to force their suggestions too hard, meaning you have to micro-manage a lot), and RWGPS exports turn-by-turn navitation in the GPX-file, meaning you get TBT-navigation on "dumb" units like the Wahoo Bolt (which don't calculate the route, but follow a breadcrumb trail). RideWithGPS, for the simple reason that it's free to use (opposed to Strava) and allows free usage on GPS units (opposed to Komoot, where you have to buy region packs).
